Do you dread sneezing? Fear the trampoline or dance floor? Do you know the location of every public loo in your local area?

Don’t panic, there is hope, with just a few minutes commitment each day, it is totally possible to turn this sensitive situation around.

It’s a delicate subject and one that affects 14 million adults in the UK. 1 in 2 women over 50 suffer with some form of urinary incontinence!

Harriet has over 30 years’ experience as a holistic massage therapist, 12 years as a Pilates teacher and 50 something years’ experience of having her own pelvic floor.

What people are saying about Restore Your Pelvic Floor Workshop?

“I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to you for organising such an enlightening, factual, humorous and empowering workshop in Hemyock last Saturday. I felt privileged to be amongst you all and to learn so many helpful tips and strategies with which to strengthening my pelvic floor muscles.  You had created such a calm and intimate environment for us all. I have already taken on board many of your tips; the handouts are so detailed too and act as a good reminder of all we covered during the workshop- the time just whizzed by! I know that it won’t be a quick fix, but a longer journey; but taking that first vital step with you all, has in itself, been both liberating and reassuring.
Thank you Harriet for delivering it all with such a delicate and humorous touch and for being your lovely self- it was a pleasure to meet you.”

I would like to share a success story with you. I had both a rectocele and a vaginal prolapse for a long time. Since I joined your Pilates classes and Pelvic Floor Workshop you have guided, inspired and motivated me to strengthen my pelvic floor. The result is so much better than I ever dreamed to hope for - both the prolapse and the rectocele have healed! Thank you so much for making this possible!           K.B

ON THE WHOLE

Having been running workshops about women's pelvic health for several years now, I am  certain of the value of this work. Comments like “Life changing” and “Everyone should know this. “  are enough to convince me. Unfortunately, many women are silently suffering, embarrassed and alone, feeling powerless as their body changes. Adrift amidst uncertainty and conflicting advice.

My Restore Your Pelvic Floor workshops bring a refreshingly candid, full body look, at pelvic floor health from a musculoskeletal perspective, taking in to account the whole person. How posture, breath and stress impact our alignment and ability to maintain continence.  How learning to discern if we are tense or relaxed in 3 dimensions is a game changer!

I love bringing anatomy to life, helping people experience their body more fully, by showing them what is under their skin. I use loads of images, models and props  (often to great hilarity)  to help people discover what’s underneath.

But despite the giggles, the truth is, when we discover, we recover.

Teaching this work is so valuable, empowering women at a time when they feel most disheartened is a gift

. If you decide to join, you will learn some foundational principles to good pelvic heath as well as information about incontinence, prolapse and related anatomy.  Once you understand the principles, we move to your connection with you…..

A strong mind body connection is fostered through relaxation and  breathwork.  Then learning  to discern the muscles of the pelvic floor by experiencing connection, contraction and relaxation. (this takes time!!)

We also cover, full body exercises for strength, stretch,  activation, relaxation and alignment, with guidance for how and when to use the exercises for ongoing recovery and maintenance.

These workshops have evolved over time and often vary slightly in content, to reflect the experiences of participants.

I aim to create a supportive and safe space for women to explore ideas and share experiences for the benefit of themselves and others .

We have so much wisdom to share, especially around how we have learned to support ourselves from within.

If your body is beginning to let you know things are changing and you are starting to worry about any aspect of bladder control or continence then its time to invest in yourself, future proof your foof and put your body first, to make lasting changes to improve your quality of life

with love and kindness  Harriet x

My pelvic floor journey

As I entered my peri-menopause years,  I started experiencing symptoms from my own pelvic floor,  I was mortified, embarrassed and ashamed.  My shame was compounded by a sense of imposter syndrome... as a Pilates teacher, surely this shouldn't be happening to me , I'm teaching my students about pelvic floor all the time, this can't be right,  why is this happening to me?

This was not the quality of life I was looking for and I was sure that aging didn't have to be this way, so me and my inner anatomy geek ,  went on a deep dive into all things pelvic floor.    I searched the internet, I read lots of books, I had  appointments with a women's health physio, my GP and a gynaecologist. They didn't tell me much, other than to squeeze and lift  ("Do your Kegels") . They were all kind hearted, hard working, well meaning highly educated professionals, but nothing they told me got to the nub of the matter.

So I went deeper, and attended  several workshops and webinars and studied with Burrell Education, Adore your Pelvic floor and Rachael Hall @Align. I embarked on a journey of discovery, and made a commitment to my self, my dignity and my pelvic floor.

After years of study and investment in my own pelvic health, I am mostly symptom free  (99%of the time) and  I now know that pelvic floors are supposed to be dynamic and resilient, bouncy and juicy, they should be able to lengthen as well as shorten, tighten as well as relax. Most importantly  I know that simply squeezing and lifting is not enough.

Whether its incontinence that worries you, pelvic organ prolapse, constipation, back ache, caesar scars, or the fear of being reliant on expensive pads, you should come to my restore your pelvic floor workshop.

It's relaxed day packed full of information and exercises.

I enter my vulnerability and talk candidly about my experiences with pelvic organ prolapse (and other mortifying symptoms) and how I have become  mainly symptom free.  Its a  funny, frank and factual workshop designed to be a safe space to give you the information and tools you need for your own pelvic recovery journey.

It is important to note, I am not a medical professional. I am a massage therapist and Pilates instructor. The information I share in this workshop is based on my own experience as a bodyworker and movement teacher and a woman with a prolapse who happens to be an anatomy/body nerd. I have taken some courses and attended some workshops and read a lot but I am not a medical expert, so please make sure you are supported by your GP and a POGP physio therapist throughout your Pelvic floor discovery journey .
